Hobsonville 2

Panuku is exploring options for the future of Hobsonville Marina. We want your views on opportunities being considered that include:

  • the potential sale of parts of the Marina to enable the development of new homes;
  • improving public access and amenities including the construction of a boardwalk on the waterfront;
  • improving public transport such as the ferry park and ride; and
  • safeguarding marina uses such as berth holder parking and the hard stand.

A drop-in session will be held at Shop 5 (was Plain Sailing Cafe), 17 Clearwater Cove, West Harbour on:

  • Thursday, 28 June 2018 – 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

If you can’t make a session, you can email your thoughts to: hobsonvillemarina@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz or click here to submit your feedback via our online survey until Monday 23 July.

Background

Auckland Council owns the land at Hobsonville Marina (4.8 hectares), which is subject to 10 long-term ground leases to the current marina operator, Hobsonville Marina Limited (HML). Of those 10 leases, eight terminate in 67 years and two are perpetually renewable which means there is no limit to the number of times that the leases can be renewed.

The marina operations include berths for vessels, hard-stand and haul-out facilities, berth holder parking and retail and industrial units. On behalf of the council, Panuku Development Auckland – the city’s redevelopment agency – has discussed future options for the Marina with the current lessee of (HML).

These discussions have taken place between the parties because any change to the terms of the current lease requires agreement from both the lessee (HML) and lessor (Panuku) and have been guided by the Waitakere District Plan and the Auckland Unitary Plan, both of which allow homes to be built on the Marina.

As part of this exploration, Panuku has asked HML to provide a draft concept plan of the type of the development that could take place on Hobsonville Marina. The aim of providing a draft concept plan as part of the public consultation process is to help guide conversations about the future of the Marina, about which no decision has yet been made.

Next steps

Feedback from the sessions and survey will help inform whether Panuku proceeds with a recommendation that parts of the marina are made available for sale to the decision makers, the council’s Finance and Performance Committee.

In the instance that Panuku decides to proceed with a recommendation, the public will be informed of the date when this will be presented to the Finance and Performance Committee meeting.
